Favourite Faces

This summer I plan to take on about a million personal projects, and it is my hope that said projects will provide enough material to cover a hefty portion of this blog. My to-do list has been collecting a plethora of various tasks (like finishing a painting I started two years ago, finalizing a tattoo design for my sister, making a Hogwarts Express costume for the Harry Potter movie release, etc.), and it's high time to start crossing off some items before things get too out of control.

There is one project in particular that I like to call the Favourite Faces Portraiture Project. The title is lame but the illiteration makes it legit, right? Up until a few months ago my photography was entirely limited to still-life and a single photo of a dog. After dipping a toe in the portraiture pool at school this past semester, I decided it's something I want to learn to do well, but it's going to take some practice.

The premise of Favourite Faces is to produce at least one decent portrait of anyone and everyone of importance in my life. It sounds impossible, and it probably is, but that's no reason not to try! If my work improves even a little, I will consider this project successful. I simply hope to take my experience of portraiture from dabbling to deliberate, starting with this photo of my awesomely cool friend Daniel:
